Wix vs. Google Sites at a glance
1. Two most popular website builders
Wix and Google Sites are the two top-rated website builders on the market. Combined, they have over 1 million websites up and running.
2. Aggressive feature releases
Both Wix and Google Sites have been releasing new features at the speed of light. It’s clear that they’re going head to head to become the most popular website builder. That being said, when one of them releases a popular feature, it won’t be long until the other releases it as well.
3. Main difference between Wix and Google Sites
Both of them are website builders, but Wix is paid whereas Google Sites is entirely free.
4. Incredible templates
Wix has 800 themes, while Google Sites has over nine templates. Nonetheless, I’m pretty sure you’ll get to choose the one right for you.

#2 How to install Wix or Google Sites
Installing Wix or Google Sites is actually super easy! Just follow my steps, and you’ll have everything set up in less than 5 minutes. Pinky promise!
I split it up into 2 phases.
Phase 1 is for Wix, and Phase 2 is for Google Sites.
Phase 1 – How to Install Wix
Step 1: Go to the website of Wix and click on start now.
Step 2: Sign up for a free account.
Step 3: Choose a template or let Wix build one for you.
Choose your favorite template and build your site with our Editor or answer a few questions and let us create the perfect site for you.
Phase 2 – How to Install Google Sites
Step 1: Open Google Sites first.
To begin, click the + in the bottom corner.
Step 2: Go to the Google Sites Help Center.
Because you’ll almost certainly have some queries during the process, it’s worth visiting the Google Sites Support Page for a list of the most common Google Sites functionalities. As you work on your website, keep this tab open.
Step 3: Add some layouts, texts, and photos.
Using the right-hand sidebar, you may add layouts, text, photos, and videos to any Google Sites page.
Step 4: Make your site stand out by using free or paid templates.
Step 5: When you’re finished, click “Publish.”
Choose a new URL or link your site to an existing domain name.

Step 8: Publish it. Congratulations!
Google Sites is a simple and easy-to-use platform that easily constructs and edits websites.
If you’re a seasoned website developer or consider yourself tech-savvy, Google’s framework offers many web development and deployment alternatives to choose from.
Since its launch, Google Sites has undergone some adjustments. The old version resembled Google Docs presently, but the added functionality and new features make it a credible challenger for business owners and creative searching for a simple CMS.
It’s a good idea to transition to the new interface if you already have the classic version of Google Sites up and running. Drag-and-drop design features and the ability to swiftly input text, photos, and videos make the revised design framework much easier to use.
#3 Templates
Wix Templates
Let’s start with some fantastic Wix templates.
Wix users have access to hundreds of different templates to choose from. They are divided into numerous categories based on the niches or types of internet sites they are intended for. These categories are super-specific so choosing what is right for you should be easy.
Just replace the placeholder content with your own, and that’s it; you got a website. You can adjust elements to make them just the way you like them.
In fact, click here if you want to see the other 800 Wix templates.

Wix template 2 – Data Analysis
Wix template 3 – T-Shirt Market
Things you should know about Wix Templates
A few important notes:
- All templates are responsive and will fit any browser on any device.
- All templates can be customized to the maximum. There are no limitations. You can adjust any Wix template to whatever you like.
Google Sites Templates
Simply, Google Sites is a platform that you can use to create a free website. You have the option of working on your projects alone or in virtual workspaces with other partners.
It’s entirely up to you how much access you provide these collaborators. For example, you may make them editors, commentators, or just watchers.
This website construction tool is also compatible with Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides for your convenience.
If you’re hooked, provides several free designs and themes. Here are some of my favorites, created by Steegle’s Google Sites experts.
Google Sites template 1 – Consulting Experts
Google Sites template 2 – Members Portal
Things you should know about Google Sites Templates:
A few notes to remember:
- Only nine fundamental designs are available in Google Sites, with titles like “Portfolio,” “Team,” and “Project,” implying the platform’s limited scope. These themes aren’t designed to promote your small business or show off your products. They’re intended for smaller-scale internet initiatives.
- You might wonder if you can develop a unique-looking site using this builder because only a few themes are accessible. The good news is that you can tweak any of the nine templates quite a bit. Even though the theme (template) options for Google Sites are limited, they are still relatively easy to apply, regardless of how much you’ve already personalized your page.
Winner:
Wix templates are more attractive and stylish in appearance! It has approximately 500 design templates, while Goggle Sites only has about 9. Nonetheless, I’m 100% sure that you won’t be frustrated with both of them.
For small websites, Wix has an outstanding drag-and-drop site builder. There are over 800 free layouts to choose from, all of which may be altered to your liking.
#4 The Editor
It’s tough to compare the user interface of Wix and Google Sites, as it’s highly dependent on personal preferences.
There will be tons of people who think that Google Sites clearly has a better editor. But then again, others will say Wix wins.
I’ll start comparing the two for you to see the difference:
The Wix Editor compared to Google Sites
Wix has a drag-and-drop visual editor that works similarly to Powerpoint or Keynote. If you see something, you can alter it just by clicking on it. The webpage remains visible, and updates are made as you make them. Simple as that!
The Google Sites Editor compared to Wix
If you’re used to using Google Docs to collaborate with people and share files, you’ll find Google Sites to be very similar.
You may give your collaborating team members editing access, and those with draft access can modify in real-time, much like in a Google Doc. Regardless of what you’re focusing on, this is a major benefit to teamwork.
You’ll also have a lot of say over who can see your site. Only specified people or organizations, such as an internal team or your entire firm, can see Google Sites. You can even make it public to appear in internet searches just like a regular website.
The Google Sites editing interface is stunning and somewhat relaxing to use. It is clutter-free and lacks pushing menus, focusing just on the necessities.
Because you just need to look in one location to locate what you need, it’s effortless, and you can get started developing your site right away.
Winner:
Both are drag-and-drop website builders, but I recommend Wix if you’re not tech-savvy. Its drag and drop editor is more user-friendly, providing beginners with complete flexibility. Also, it has more features and appears a little less dull.
#5 Ease of Use
Wix
Wix is a website builder geared for beginners. In fact, anyone can take charge of the construction process and develop a website of any sort from the ground up in their spare time.
Furthermore, customers may choose a package that already includes a name and hosting, eliminating the need to independently maintain or purchase these items.
One downside, however, once you choose a template and edit it to your liking, it’s not easy to change to a different template. In fact, it means you have to start over.
Google Sites
As you might have guessed from the name, Google Sites is a Google-created tool that allows you to construct individual websites to store, share, and interact with various content types.
The thing is, traditional website builders all have one thing in common: they are often relatively simple to use.
The whole goal of a website builder is to allow someone with no technical computing or coding experience to develop their website from start to end. When complicated technicalities are involved, the constructor is frequently seen as a dud (CMSs are the exception). With that, I am delighted to tell you that anyone checking into the Google Sites’ features will quickly discover that it’s straightforward to use.
Winner:
Both Wix and Google Sites are easy to use. The answer just depends on what “ease of use” means to you as a user. Traditional website builders all have one thing in common: they are often relatively simple to use.
Google Sites is a simple website-building platform that allows you to rapidly construct and publish new sites. While it can’t compete with more in-depth competitors like Squarespace or Wix, it’s a terrific way to get your site up and running without having to pay for expert design and development.
#6 Ecommerce
Can you use Wix or Google Sites for eCommerce?
Yes, actually, they’re both perfect for it. Let me show you why.
Wix
Wix is an excellent option for eCommerce. In fact, three of Wix’s eight premium plans include fully integrated eCommerce functionality.
For as little as $23 a month, you can have all the tools you need to sell online, including the essentials like taking online payments and extras like automatic sales tax and currency conversion.
Wix’s eCommerce tools are relatively sophisticated. However, they fall short of the capabilities of rival specialized eCommerce website builders like Shopify.
Wix’s eCommerce plans are mostly intended for customers who want a website capable of selling a few things here and there on the side. It is not advised for use in full-fledged internet businesses.
Google Sites
You may use a handful of the extensions and embed tools available online to turn your Google Site into an eCommerce and retail platform. However, I don’t propose Google sites as your first stop if you’re seeking a full-fledged online store.
Winner:
I have to give this round to Wix. It’s good, and you won’t be disappointed with its features for your online store needs.
#7 Features
Both Wix and Google Sites have a lot of features. Honestly, I can’t think of any features I would like to add to either one of them.
However, I can imagine you want to know more about what features are included. So here we go.
Wix
Wix is an all-in-one platform that offers three different methods to create websites: Wix Artificial Design Intelligence, Wix Editor, and Wix Velo.
- Wix ADI/ Wix Artificial Design Intelligence
The ADI creates a customized website for you in real-time based on your responses to questions. This is a super cool feature that creates a website for you using AI. You get a couple of questions, and that’s it Wix’s AI builds you a website. Amazing right?
- Wix’s Editor
The Editor is an intuitive drag-and-drop interface with various possibilities for each element, hundreds of templates (plus more from the community), video backdrops, parallax, and other fully adjustable features included in the editor.
- Wix Velo
Velo is a tool that allows users to create more complex websites. It is a more complex interface, though more for the tech-savvy crowd.
- Full-Packed Features
All Wix sites are hosted on their servers and contain features such as security, backups, search engine optimization, domain names, and other features. Apps from the app store might help you to customize your website.
Among the many features available is the ability to edit photos and logos, create password-protected pages, embed HTML, utilize stock photos, manage your online store, monitor statistics, utilize financial tools, and receive your own private mailbox.
Google Sites
Now let’s continue with Google Sites.
- Handy for small websites
Google Sites is currently too limited for serious website development, but it can be handy for quickly creating nice-looking small sites.
- Good fit for everybody
If you only need a simple way to put out a few basic pages to share with people, Google Sites might be a good fit. It’s easy to use, interacts with other Google services, and doesn’t involve any additional registration. Assuming you already have a Google account, you can start using it right now with only a few clicks.
- Minimalist interface
Google Sites has a very minimalist interface, and you may opt to construct a site from scratch or utilize one of the few themes available.
- Free site for every user!
Google Sites is a free site that includes unlimited storage, traffic, and websites. This is, without a doubt, the most appealing aspect of Google Sites. Who doesn’t want free builders?
Winner:
It’s a close tie! As website builders, they both have the features you’ll ever need to create your dream website. Just choose Wix for flexibility and Google Sites for simplicity.
#8 Pricing
Let’s talk about pricing. This might be the variable that could help you choose between Wix and Google Sites.
Wix Pricing
Prices on Wix work a bit differently.
They have multiple tiers with each tier to offer more functionalities. You pick from a variety of different plans based on the project’s requirements.
The best part about the pricing of Wix? It all comes with a free domain and a free SSL certificate.
The four baseline plans are as follows:
- Combo – $13 per month
- Unlimited – $17 per month
- Pro – $22 per month
- VIP – $39 per month
Google Sites Pricing
Pricing for Google Sites is a fascinating subject.
Users frequently discuss the pricing of Google Sites on the internet. It’s particularly fascinating when folks who have never utilized the platform speculate on how much the service would cost. There are many figures bandied around, and I’m here to deflate that speculative bubble.
When you check the Google Sites price, you’ll notice that it’s completely free. Is it true?
Yes, using the service is absolutely free, which is its most significant advantage up to date.
Whether you’re concerned about Google Sites’ cost for personal reasons or want to use it for business, the tool’s free nature will allow you to utilize it in some capacity, even if you are searching for a more traditional website builder.
Winner:
If you don’t want to spend, I recommend Google Sites. Google Sites is available for free with any Google account. The amount of sites you can create is restricted by the 15 GB of storage space included with your account, but you can upgrade at any moment.
#9 SEO
I’m going to keep this short. Both of them are great for SEO. I’ve seen several Webflow and Google Sites websites with millions of visitors per month, all because of SEO! In fact, Wix-powered websites are easy to find at the top of search engine results.
#10 Domains & Emails
Wix
Wix provides an all-in-one solution for creating a complete, sophisticated online presence. Feel free to register your free Wix website domain and benefit from seamless integration with Wix products.
#11 Examples
Here is a collection of my favorite 48 Wix websites.
Definitely have a look at this collection to better understand what’s possible with Wix.
In this review, however, I’ll share three exceptional examples.
Let’s start with my favorite Wix website.
It’s the website of Wix itself. It has excellent animations and feels incredibly smooth as you scroll down. Have a look and see what’s possible.
Next is an example of Google Sites.
Jivrus creates terrific software tools that help businesses succeed all over the world. Jivrus specializes in Cloud, Automation, Integration, IoT, and Analytics to help your business reach its full potential.
Jivrus is an example of Google Sites. If you’re interested in using the platform, you can visit the website to decide on.
Another example is https://www.xchu.rocks/.
#12 Customer Support
Wix
Wix’s customer support isn’t something you’d like.
Have a look at the Trust Pilot profile of Wix.
It has 2865 reviews with an average of 1.6. If you read the comments, you’ll see a repetition of people complaining about a lack of customer support.
Google Sites
There is very little support for Google Sites. There are no live support alternatives – not even an automated chat. If you have a problem, you’ll have to depend on the support documents and the community assistance forum.
Winner:
I’d recommend Google Sites as it has a built-in help section with step-by-step website editing instructions, a helpful Help Center, and feedback forms with automated screenshot inclusion.
#13 Conclusion
Both website builders enable the creation and publication of websites. The techniques they take, the feature sets they employ, and the major system parameters make it evident that the systems are vastly different.
When these two platforms are compared, Wix emerges as the clear victor. If you’re still on the fence, keep in mind that Google Sites will primarily appeal to folks that use Google Apps in a teamwork mode.
